Exodus 12:13 – “The blood will be a sign for you on the houses where you are, and when I see the blood, I will pass over you. No destructive plague will touch you when I strike Egypt.”

Exodus 12:14 – “This is a day you are to commemorate; for the generations to come, you shall celebrate it as a festival to the LORD—a lasting ordinance.”

Many lack a comprehensive understanding of Passover and the ways in which Jesus fulfilled it. When you look at the passages about Passover and how God gave the Israelites instructions to remove leaven from their households for seven days. This was to examine and cleanse the “sin out of their lives.’   He instructed them to kill a spotless lamb, put its blood over the door post, and stay within that household while the death angel passed through Egypt to kill the first born. Every plague God sent of the ten plagues of Egypt were to confront a false god they worshiped. The last one was the first born. Egyptians worshiped Pharoah’s as gods. They believed they were gods. Even though Yahweh, the God of Israel overthrew all other nine, Pharoah still hardened his heart and would not let them free from slavery. It took the ‘blood of the lamb’ to set them free from captivity.  This month we celebrate Passover and the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Jesus finished the work when he said, “it is finished.”  He willingly went to the cross to die for the sins of the world. BUT He resurrected! Only His blood can set us free from death, hell and the grave and bring us into complete freedom.   Jesus became the Passover lamb for us.

John 1:29 says The next day he (John) saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!

Just like the Egyptians, God planned for our salvation, healing and deliverance from bondage and death. We must make the choice to walk out of bondage into the promises of a new life in Christ. Pharoah let them go but then chased down the Israelites. God swallowed the Egyptians in the red sea. What a picture of God’s delivering power. The Israelites were out of the old place, with the promise of going into the new, but they ended up circling the same mountain for 40 years due to their unbelief.  This is the time to get out of that rut that has us stuck in a repeated cycle.  God is the same God who wants us to move out and into all that He promised us. Jesus’ sacrifice paid the price for our freedom. His resurrection made the way for us to move victoriously to the promises of freedom, peace, prosperity and abundant and eternal life.  Let’s allow God to show us the ‘leaven’ He wants to remove from our lives, and lead us forward into His blessings.

Father, Thank You for making a way for our freedom from bondage, sin and death.  We acknowledge Your command to remember what You have done for us. We celebrate Passover and Jesus as the Passover lamb. Show us any unbelief or sin in our lives keeping us from moving into all that You bought for us. Please move us out of victim mentality into victors. King Jesus thank You for wearing the victors crown and adopting us through Your blood into Your family. May Your name be honored in every aspect of our lives as we wholeheartedly pursue all that You have promised. In Jesus name Amen.
