The gift of second passover

Chag Pesach Sheni Sameach! May the Lord wrap you in His peace, lift your heart with fresh hope, and fill your home with renewed joy. Tonight and tomorrow we remember the gift of the Second Passover—God’s gracious invitation to come near again.

Pesach Sheni is observed on the 14th of Iyar—one month after the 14th of Nisan, the day of the original Passover offering described in the Torah (Numbers 9:1–14). This observance began when some Israelites were unable to bring the Passover sacrifice at the appointed time because they were ritually impure from contact with a dead body, or because they were traveling far away. They came to Moses and Aaron with a heartfelt request: why should they be left out of such a vital mitzvah? In His mercy, God provided a make‑up day, even for those without a good excuse.  He made a way for them to still participate and belong.

Pesach Sheni reminds us that God makes room for second chances—to return, to begin again, and to step back into His timeline for us. It carries the heart of teshuvah (repentance) and spiritual return: even if life has been heavy, the timing has been hard, or you’ve felt far away, the Lord welcomes you with compassion. If you’ve been discouraged, weary, or delayed, let this day speak comfort to you—God is not finished with your story. He can restore what was lost, heal what was hurt, and open a hopeful way forward, one grace-filled step at a time.

Right now I’m facilitating a class called Living from the Heart Jesus Gave You. So many of us are learning how to find our way back to joy after woundedness—and even after our own mistakes.

Pesach Sheni is a gentle reminder that Jesus made a way for us through His great love and sacrifice. As we remember Him—even as we take communion—may our hearts receive again the truth that He has made a way for our total redemption.

Scripture: “Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” (Lamentations 3:22–23)

God’s compassion isn’t running out—it meets us again each morning. Even after a tough day or regrets, He remains faithful.  May you find encouragement in recognizing new opportunities for growth each day, trusting in God.  As you move forward, consider the ongoing invitation to reflect, embrace support, and begin anew from your current position. He redeems, restores, and strengthens; nothing is wasted.

Prayer: Father, thank You for Your mercy and for making a way back to You. Thank you for this special time of second chances. Fill us with the revelation of Your great love and desire to meet us and move us forward. For each person reading this, breathe fresh hope into weary places, heal what has been wounded, and lift every burden that feels too heavy. Give us courage to return, grace to begin again, and joy in Your presence. In Jesus’ name, amen.
